Cheyenne is seeking a job in higher education with an emphasis on teaching rhetorical criticism and communication across a diverse array of special topics including: death studies, grief work, memorialization, visual culture and communication, cultural studies, and performance studies. Cheyenne has almost a decade of experience in the classroom as a tutor, teaching assistant, graduate assistant, and instructor of record. In the classroom, Cheyenne strives to create a collaborative environment for learning that privileges accessibility and ethical pedagogy to encourage students to advocate for their needs and learn from each other.
In addition to their teaching experience, Cheyenne is an adept researcher and writer with multiple publications in print and under review. Their most recent publication, "Possession, Performance, and the Rhetoric of Belonging: Urban Cemeteries as Spaces of Cultural Citizenship," just appeared in the International Journal of Cultural Studies. Her research explores the rhetoric of death and dying through the frameworks of cultural studies, performance studies, materiality, and identity. Cheyenne interrogates the implicit power systems at end-of-life to understand how performances in spaces of death and dying, such as cemeteries, hospices, sacred spaces, and funeral homes, represent and reinforce cultural norms for meaning-making at end-of-life and postmortem.
